Radon Inspection
Radon is a tasteless, odorless, invisible gas that is produced by the natural breakdown of uranium in rock, soil, and water. Radon is estimated to cause 21,000 lung cancer deaths per year. In Florida, 1 in 5 homes test positive for elevated radon levels. For this reason, the EPA recommends that every home buyer has their home radon tested. The Florida Department of Health recommends that homeowners test for radon every two years regardless of previous test results.
If you choose to have the home tested for radon the process will takes a minimum of 48 hours. Your inspector will start the radon test during your general home inspection. The testing equipment will remain on site for 48 hours at which time an inspector will return to the property to collect the test equipment. The equipment will then be analyzed in a lab and the resulting radon levels will be sent to you as soon as the lab is finished with its analysis.
If you have any questions about radon gas, its effects, or testing, you can find more in-depth information at the Florida Department of Health website. You are also welcome to contact our office and we will be happy to answer any questions you may have.
